Program Overview

The University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine offers an Integrated Internal Medicine/Pediatrics residency program, designed to provide comprehensive training in both disciplines over a duration of four years. This dual training model prepares residents to manage a diverse population of patients from infancy through adulthood, emphasizing continuity of care and effective management of chronic conditions.

Curriculum and Rotations

In addition to core rotations, residents also engage in multidisciplinary experiences including intensive care units (ICU) rotations in both pediatrics and adults. This inclusive exposure allows residents to develop a wide-ranging understanding of medical conditions relevant to all age groups.

The Department supports initiatives targeting health disparities affecting the Hispanic population, particularly in applying findings to improve clinical outcomes in both pediatric and adult care settings.

• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
• Completion of USMLE Step 1 and Step 2.
• A maximum of one failed attempt on USMLE exams.
