University of Texas RGV Program

The Psychiatry Residency program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is designed to train residents in providing quality mental health care, especially to underserved populations in the Rio Grande Valley. Visa Support

The program offers visa support for international medical graduates (IMGs) and will sponsor J-1 visas. Prospective residents are required to have ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification if they graduated from a non-US medical school.

Application Process

Application procedures for the Psychiatry Residency program are straightforward but competitive. Potential applicants must submit their applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), providing necessary documentation such as medical school transcripts, letters of recommendation, and USMLE or COMLEX scores. As a guideline, applicants are encouraged to have graduated from medical school within the last five years, although applications from earlier grads are also considered provided they can demonstrate ongoing medical engagement.
