University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Program

The Plastic Surgery Residency Program at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas offers both an Integrated Residency Program and an Independent Residency Program.

Integrated Residency Program:

• The program is six years long and aims to provide comprehensive education and training in plastic and reconstructive surgery.
• The curriculum covers various disciplines, including dermatology, orthopaedic hand surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology (oculoplastic), and otolaryngology.
• To apply, individuals can submit their applications through the Plastic Surgery Common Application (PSCA) sponsored by the American Council of Academic Plastic Surgeons (ACAPS).
• The program size is 5 residents per class.
• Interview invitations are sent out on November 9th, 2023, with in-person interviews held in early January of each year.

Independent Residency Program:

• This traditional pathway is for applicants who are board-eligible and fully trained in general surgery. Candidates with other backgrounds may be considered if they meet the American Board of Plastic Surgery requirements.
• Applicants must complete general surgery requirements approved by the Committee of Credentials.
• To apply, individuals can submit their applications through the SF Match’s Central Application Service (CAS).
• The program size is 1 resident per class, and interviews take place in person in March annually.

Application Requirements:

• Applicants must have a Texas Physician-in-Training permit before the residency starts.
• USMLE Step 1 must be passed prior to application submission, and Step 2 CK must be passed before the start of residency.
• ECFMG certificate is required for international medical graduates.
