Curriculum
The Family Medicine Residency Program follows established Residency guidelines as dictated by both ACOFP and ACGME. The curriculum is structured across three years, incorporating a variety of rotations to ensure comprehensive training:
PGY-1: Family Medicine Outpatient, Labor & Delivery, Inpatient Teaching, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics Outpatient, Gynecology Outpatient, General Surgery, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, Newborn Nursery/Quality Improvement, and ICU with one elective month 4.
PGY-2: Involves rotations in Gynecology Outpatient, Pediatric Inpatient, Behavioral Health, Internal Medicine Inpatient, and Sports Medicine, along with five elective months 4.
PGY-3: Focuses on Geriatrics Outpatient, continued Family Medicine Outpatient, Inpatient Teaching, and additional electives such as Orthopedics or Rheumatology, plus Health System Management and seven elective months 4.
Research and Clinical Skills
The program emphasizes experiential learning in clinical instruction with a focus on essential procedures in Family Medicine. Residents gain skills in performing colonoscopies, skin excisions, biopsies, pelvic and speculum exams, pap smears, joint injections, among others 1.
