The UPMC Medical Education (Harrisburg) Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program is a five-year program with continued accreditation by ACGME and AOA. They accept applications from both osteopathic and allopathic candidates. This program aims to provide outstanding surgical training in orthopaedics to 25 residents, fostering lifelong learning and teaching experiences while prioritizing compassionate and quality patient care. Residents receive training in various specialties, including Sports Medicine, Hand and Upper Extremity, Foot and Ankle, Orthopaedic Spine, and more.

Application to the program must be done through ERAS by October 21. Interviews are typically scheduled between November and January. Applicants are encouraged to do an orthopaedic surgery rotation at the UPMC in Central Pa. campuses to enhance their candidacy. Minimum COMLEX score of 550 or USMLE score of 235 is required for audition rotations. The program offers both 2-week and 4-week rotations, with the latter being highly recommended.

The program provides opportunities for rotations in major tertiary care facilities, including pediatric orthopaedics at renowned institutions.
