Kent Hospital/Brown University Program

The Kent Hospital/Brown University Family Medicine Residency Program is a collaboration between Rhode Island's two family medicine residencies. Established to provide high-quality healthcare, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes wellness, health equity, and population health. The program aims to train leaders in holistic healthcare delivery, medical education, research, and advocacy.

The program offers residents training at two underserved sites: the Family Care Center in Pawtucket and the Thundermist Health Center in West Warwick. These safety net clinics provide integrated behavioral health services, medication-assisted treatment, and transgender care. Additionally, residents receive inpatient training across multiple settings and have the opportunity to engage with various community organizations to serve the needs of patients.

Residents participate in specialized clinics, outpatient orthopedics, dermatology, reproductive health procedures, and nursing home care. The program focuses on full-spectrum care, including family-centered prenatal, intrapartum, and newborn care. The curriculum includes longitudinal rotations, specialty rotations, elective rotations, and engagement with diverse patient populations.

The program supports the growth of a diverse workforce of family physicians who mirror the communities they serve. Residents have opportunities for global health experiences, electives in various specialties, and exposure to gender affirming care. The program emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and community engagement, with a strong focus on health equity.
