Interventional radiology - independent - Chicago, IL | ACGME Code: 4151600001

The McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University offers an ACGME-approved Interventional Radiology (IR) Residency Program. This program provides trainees with expertise in diagnostic imaging, image-guided procedures, and patient care. Upon completion, graduates will be board-certified in both diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology.

There are two pathways within the IR Residency Program: the Integrated Residency and the Independent Residency. The Integrated Residency is five years long and includes training in interventional and diagnostic radiology. Candidates match into this residency directly from medical school.

The Independent Residency is one to two years long and follows completion of a diagnostic radiology residency. Traditional diagnostic radiology graduates will need to complete a two-year residency, while those from programs with an "early specialization in IR" designation can finish in one year. The Independent Residency will begin in 2020.
