Family medicine - Bronx, NY | ACGME Code: 1203521209 | NRMP Code: 3153120C0
The Family Medicine Residency Training Program at Montefiore Medical Center focuses on training family physicians who excel in providing high-quality clinical care to diverse, urban underserved populations. The curriculum integrates behavioral science, social medicine, and community involvement to prepare physicians to be leaders, scholars, teachers, and advocates for health equality and social change.
Residents practice at two Montefiore Medical Group sites: The Family Health Center, which primarily serves Latinos, African-Americans, and Southeast Asians, and Williamsbridge Family Practice, which serves Caribbean Americans and other immigrant populations.
Application to the program is reviewed through the ERAS system, with no minimum USMLE score requirements. Higher scores are viewed favorably, and having passed exams on the first or second attempts is beneficial. For International Medical Graduates, Montefiore Medical Center sponsors J1 and H1 visas. Applicants are preferred to have hands-on clinical experience in the U.S. and to have graduated within the past 10 years.
The program offers a core curriculum that includes internal medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, and surgery, along with elective opportunities in various areas of interest. Residents can also choose special interest tracks in homeless health, HIV care, reproductive health, and maternity care.
The Residency Program in Social Medicine at Montefiore integrates a unique approach to clinical care with a focus on social activism and social change. The program emphasizes health care for all and includes a social medicine curriculum, dedicated social medicine projects, and a residency partnership system.
