University Hospitals Community Consortium (Westlake) Program

The University Hospitals Geauga Medical Center's Internal Medicine Residency Program is a traditional three-year, ACGME accredited program located in Cleveland, OH. The program offers robust subspecialty experiences in various fields such as cardiology, pulmonology, hematology/oncology, rheumatology, infectious disease, nephrology, and gastroenterology. Residents are exposed to a mix of "bread and butter" internal medicine with access to subspecialty experiences throughout their training.

The program emphasizes a supportive and friendly learning environment with a focus on collegiality, support, and kindness. Residents work alongside residents and interns from other programs including the Transitional Year and Pain Management & Rehabilitation programs, aiming to provide the best possible patient care under the guidance of dedicated faculty.

The curriculum includes a mix of inpatient and ambulatory medicine rotations, ICU experiences, elective rotations, nights, and vacation time spread across the three years of training. The program also offers a Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum and opportunities for leadership in medical education.

Led by Program Director Dr. Charles LoPresti, the program faculty are committed to providing residents with high-quality training experiences. Residents have access to diverse clinical sites within the University Hospitals system, including UH Cleveland Medical Center.

For application requirements, candidates must submit the ERAS Common Application Form, Curriculum Vitae, Dean’s Letter, letters of recommendation, personal statement, medical school transcripts, and USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts. Interviews for the Internal Medicine Residency Program are typically conducted virtually.
