The University Hospitals St. John Medical Center in Westlake, OH, offers an Emergency Medicine Residency Program. Residents have the opportunity to treat a diverse patient population with a 12% critical care rate. The primary clinical site features Level III Trauma Status, Chest Pain Accreditation, and is a Certified Stroke Center.
The program includes a four-year curriculum with an emphasis on critical care, engaging didactic sessions, ED ultrasound training, quarterly simulation training, and Level I Trauma experience at Metro and CMC. There are also additional experiences at Akron Children's Hospital and Community EMS. Residents receive a competitive compensation and benefits plan, including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS certifications. There is also an annual educational stipend and support for GME-sponsored research presentations.
Application requirements include the ERAS Common Application Form, Curriculum Vitae, Dean's Letter, letters of recommendation, personal statement, photograph, and medical school transcripts. USMLE and/or COMLEX transcripts are also required.
The program starts interviewing candidates in October 2023 for the upcoming 2024-2025 Academic Year. Interviews are virtual and conducted through video conferencing. The program does not offer positions outside of the NRMP Match and does not accept applications requiring ECFMG, J-1, or H1-B visa sponsorship.
The stipends for residents are as follows: - PGY 1: $65,817 - PGY 2: $68,392 - PGY 3: $71,070 - PGY 4: $73,542 - PGY 5: $76,014 - PGY 6: $78,692 - PGY 7: $80,958
Residents have access to educational funds, paid time off, medical/dental/vision health insurance, lab coats, laundry service, professional liability insurance, parking, and more. The program supports resident wellness and offers resources through the National EAP.
