The program focuses on developing well-rounded clinicians, scholars, educators, advocates, and leaders who can serve diverse populations. Residents have access to robust core training and opportunities for clinical specialization, research, teaching, and advocacy. The curriculum includes tracks for research and global mental health, with exposure to various subspecialties such as child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison psychiatry, and integrated behavioral health.
Application to the program is done through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications by the opening day of September 27. The program follows a holistic review process for applications and requires three letters of recommendation, including one from a psychiatrist. Applicants are also encouraged to have completed an internal medicine, neurology, or pediatrics acting/sub-internship.
Interviews for the program will be scheduled on Tuesdays starting in October and running through January, with virtual interviews being conducted for the 2023-24 season. For applicants interested in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, optional events are available during the interview season. The program welcomes applications from international medical graduates.
The program directors, including Dr. Belinda Bandstra, emphasize creating a dynamic, collaborative, and growth-minded professional community. They aim to provide residents with a comprehensive training experience that prepares them to contribute to the mental health of local and global communities.
