The Orthopaedic Residency Program at the University of Michigan Health-West is a distinguished five-year training program crafted to cultivate skilled orthopaedic surgeons. Application Process and Requirements

The application process for this program requires all candidates to submit their applications via ERAS. Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation, one of which should come from an orthopaedic physician. Candidates must also achieve a COMLEX score of 600 or higher or a USMLE score of at least 230, with both scores needing to be passed on the first attempt; however, only one of these examinations is required, not both. Applications must be submitted by November 1st to be considered for interviews, which are typically held in early January.

Visa Support

The program typically does not sponsor visas for resident positions. The exception to this policy occurs only when the hospital identifies that no U.S. citizens or permanent residents with equivalent training and experience are available.

This residency is highly competitive given its structured training and quality of education, aimed at producing exceptional practitioners. The residents who complete this program often secure positions in prestigious fellowships across the country.
