Welcome to the University of Michigan Health-West Emergency Medicine Residency Program located in Wyoming, MI, adjacent to Grand Rapids. Residents interact with board-certified or eligible faculty emergency medicine physicians without the presence of advanced practice providers, thus allowing them to gain hands-on experience directly under the supervision of attendings.

Program Structure and Training

The program is structured over a 36-month period and accommodates six residents annually. During their training, residents spend a majority of their time in the emergency department, engaging in direct patient care and clinical procedures. The curriculum includes rotations in critical areas such as Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), trauma, pediatric emergency medicine, anesthesiology, and several elective rotations tailored to the residents' interests. This breadth of exposure is designed to prepare trainees for a diverse array of future employment opportunities.

Application and Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit their applications via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Key requirements include passing scores on COMLEX Level 2, submission of three letters of recommendation (including at least one SLOE), and the completion of medical school within a specified timeframe prior to application. While the program is competitive, it is also welcoming to DO and IMG applicants, although they do not sponsor visas for residents in most instances unless specific conditions are met.
