University of Virginia Medical Center Program

Plastic Surgery - Integrated - Charlottesville, VA | ACGME Code: 3625111104 | NRMP Code: 1737362C0

Fellowship Focused

The University of Virginia Medical Center offers an Integrated Residency Program in Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial, and Oral Health. This program provides a comprehensive training experience for plastic surgery residents. Two residents are accepted each year, and the program is truly integrated, focusing on providing a strong foundation in plastic surgery.

During the program, residents will have the opportunity to participate in the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care for patients under the guidance of attending physicians. Residents work closely with attendings to develop and execute treatment plans. The program covers a wide range of plastic surgery aspects, including thermal injury, reconstructive surgery, microvascular reconstruction, oncologic reconstruction, head and neck reconstruction, and more.

Residents will undergo training as apprentices, being assigned to attendings and participating in patient care within their scope of practice during each rotation. In the final year of training, chief residents have opportunities for independent growth, such as educating medical students, leading the inpatient service, and gaining more clinical independence.

The program at the University of Virginia Medical Center aims to provide a well-rounded and hands-on educational experience for aspiring plastic surgeons. They consider all applicants for their integrated residency program. For further details on current or past residents, the program's website may provide additional information.
