Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Program

The Neurology Residency program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine is a four-year categorical neurology program that includes a PGY-1 year in internal medicine. The program accepts six residents per year. Residents benefit from comprehensive clinical patient care training while preparing for a career in neurology.

The program at Wake Forest offers unique opportunities for advanced neurology training not found elsewhere in the country. Highlights include being a Comprehensive Stroke Center, offering expert stroke assessment through the Wake Forest Baptist Telestroke Network, operating a Comprehensive Epilepsy Center meeting Level IV guidelines, providing MEG (magnetoencephalography) services, conducting minimally invasive spine surgeries, offering ALS care and research, having an experienced Gamma Knife treatment team, and providing Deep Brain Stimulation services.

The residency program provides residents with exposure to various subspecialties through outpatient blocks and electives, including clinics in multiple sclerosis, headache, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular disease, and more. Residents also gain experience in nerve conductive studies, electromyography, pediatric neurology, and consultation services.

Residents participate in clinical rotations, teaching opportunities, and on-call duties throughout their training. Teaching is a crucial component of the program, with residents involved in teaching medical students and providing formal presentations during grand rounds. The curriculum includes inpatient and outpatient exposure, consult services, and night float shifts.

To apply to the Neurology Residency program at Wake Forest, applicants must use the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
