Broward Health Program

The General Surgery Residency Program at Broward Health is a comprehensive five-year training program designed to emphasize experiential learning aimed at developing each resident's knowledge of the core competencies of surgical care. Led by an enthusiastic and dedicated faculty of qualified, board-certified multi-specialty surgeons, the program is committed to providing a hands-on educational and clinical experience while maintaining high-quality patient care.

The program offers a robust didactic curriculum that includes weekly, monthly, and quarterly basic and clinical science lectures, journal clubs, morbidity and mortality conferences, Grand Rounds, and simulation laboratory skills. Residents will have the opportunity to complete core and specialty rotations in a wide range of areas including General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Head and Neck Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery and Robotics, Bariatric Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, Trauma, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Transplantation, Vascular Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, and the Emergency Department.

With a consortium of four teaching hospitals and over 40,000 surgical cases performed annually, residents gain valuable clinical experience. For those interested in pursuing fellowship training after residency, protected research time is provided during the five-year curriculum to enhance qualifications. The program aims to prepare residents to become competent surgeons capable of independent practice.
