Jefferson Health Northeast Program
Internal medicine - Philadelphia, PA | ACGME Code: 1404100906 | NRMP Code: 2103140C0
The Internal Medicine program at Jefferson Health in the Northeast is a three-year ACGME accredited program that aims to provide residents with extensive educational training to become competent physicians. Residents have the opportunity to rotate at three different campuses: Torresdale, Frankford, and Bucks, which allows them to manage a diverse patient population and gain experience in various disease processes and treatments.
A unique aspect of this program is the emphasis on extra critical care training, with residents spending six months in the ICU throughout their residency. This additional training equips residents with the necessary skills to manage critically ill patients effectively. The program also implements a night float system in place of the traditional call schedule to reduce resident fatigue and stress.
The program focuses on offering high-quality didactic training, promoting strong clinical decision-making skills, providing procedural competence, offering teaching opportunities, and fostering a supportive learning environment for each resident. By the end of the program, residents are expected to demonstrate competence, confidence, and excellence in internal medicine, preparing them for careers in both community and academic settings. Graduates pursue various career paths, including Hospitalist Medicine, Ambulatory Medicine, and fellowships in specialties such as ICU, Cardiology, Infectious Disease, GI, among others.
The program includes rotations at the following hospitals: - Jefferson Torresdale Hospital: 258-bed hospital, Level II Trauma Center, certified Stroke Center and STEMI Center, with a 24-bed ICU and 7-bed Cardiac ICU. - Jefferson Frankford Hospital: 160-bed hospital serving an urban population, with a Surgery Center and a 14-bed ICU. - Jefferson Bucks Hospital: 112-bed hospital serving suburban/rural patients, with a 12-bed ICU and specialized care in Rothman Orthopedics.
