Marshall University School of Medicine Program

The Marshall University School of Medicine’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program offers an extensive and multifaceted training experience in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. The program is designed to equip residents with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel as clinicians in various aspects of women's health. As part of the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine, the residency program is ACGME-accredited and features a comprehensive curriculum that encompasses both general practice and specialized training in subspecialties.

One of the notable features of the program is the dedicated faculty, consisting of 17 full-time members who are committed to the education and development of residents. This collaborative environment fosters a robust learning experience, where residents interact with specialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Urogynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, as well as the only Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist in West Virginia. Residents benefit from hands-on experiences and mentorship throughout their training.

Training Sites

The primary site for residency training is Cabell Huntington Hospital, the largest provider of obstetrical and gynecologic care in the region. This facility serves a diverse patient population, including many who travel significant distances for care. Residents receive exposure to various specialized centers that focus on prenatal diagnosis, maternal hypertension, gestational diabetes, maternal addiction and recovery, pediatric bleeding disorders, gender-affirming pediatrics, and gynecologic malignancies. This wide-ranging experience ensures that residents are well-prepared for a variety of clinical challenges.

Curriculum

The residency curriculum is structured to provide a balanced and thorough clinical exposure, including opportunities for surgical training. Residents complete a specialized robotic surgery curriculum prior to graduation, enhancing their proficiency in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
