Mary Washington Healthcare Program

Thank you for your interest in the Mary Washington Healthcare Residency in Anesthesiology. The program eagerly anticipates welcoming its inaugural class of six residents in July 2025. This anesthesiology residency is the fourth residency approved at Mary Washington Healthcare, marking a significant addition to the institution's educational offerings. The program is designed to provide a comprehensive clinical and educational experience for residents.

The residency structure includes a clinical base year (CBY) during which interns will work alongside residents in multiple specialties, including surgery, internal medicine, and family medicine, as well as in the transitional year program. Clinical exposure to operating room anesthesiology will commence in the first year, complemented by rotations in the intensive care unit (ICU), emergency room (ER), surgical, internal medicine, and elective rotations. Curriculum

The curriculum for Mary Washington Healthcare's anesthesiology residency is structured to ensure comprehensive training. Residents will transition through different stages, starting from the clinical base year (CA-0) to the final year (CA-4). The residency includes rotations in various subspecialty options such as cardiology, neurology, ENT, pulmonology, and orthopedics, along with elective opportunities in regional anesthesia, cardiothoracic anesthesia, ICU care, neuroanesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, and advanced pain management. Core lectures and simulation/lab sessions are mandatory for different residency classes, promoting consistent engagement with educational content. Resident attendance is required for all scheduled conferences, ensuring that each resident benefits from the collective learning experience. Application Requirements

The residency program accepts applications exclusively through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applicants are required to have passed the USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1, along with completing Step 2 or Level 2. The evaluation and ranking process for applicants involve a comprehensive scoring rubric that assesses board scores, rotation grades, letters of recommendation, leadership roles, community service, scholarly activity, and performance during interviews.
