The Ohio State University Hospital Program offers an integrated cardiothoracic surgery residency program. This six-year program accepts one resident each year in a categorical position. Residents receive training at various hospitals including the Ross Heart Hospital, James Cancer Hospital, and Nationwide Children's Hospital. The main training site is at the Ohio State University Hospital main campus with exposure to a wide variety of cases ranging from routine to complex.
The program aims to provide a comprehensive educational experience integrating basic sciences with clinical practice. Residents are given progressive responsibility in patient care, opportunities for teaching, and exposure to interdisciplinary collaboration. Educational conferences are held weekly with protected time for learning.
International applicants must hold or be eligible for a valid ECFMG certificate, a J-1 Visa, and have at least one year of experience in a U.S.-accredited clinical program. The program supports visiting students for a Cardiac Surgery Sub-internship rotation.
The application process includes submission through ERAS with required materials such as a CV, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and medical school transcript. The application period runs from September 1 to November 15 annually. Selected candidates will be invited for a personal interview.
