Penn Highlands DuBois Program

The Penn Highlands DuBois Family Medicine Residency Program offers a comprehensive three-year training program that aims to prepare residents to meet the demands of rural healthcare. The program has received continued accreditation and has gained initial recognition status from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for osteopathic recognition.

Residents participate in a variety of rotations at eight hospitals and outpatient facilities, including internal medicine, orthopedics, urology, and sports medicine. They work one-on-one with attending physicians, receive half-day didactic lectures, and have access to educational modules, library resources, and board preparation tools through LECOMT, The Lake Erie Consortium for Osteopathic Medical Training.

Applicants to the Family Medicine Residency Program must submit an ERAS application, medical school transcripts, board scores, a personal statement, and three letters of recommendation. Eligibility criteria include graduating from an accredited medical school in the US or Canada within two years of the expected graduation cycle, or from a medical school outside the US or Canada with additional qualifying criteria.

The program emphasizes hands-on experience through rotations in various settings, including the Penn Highlands Family Medicine Residency Clinics located at Penn Highlands DuBois, West Campus, and in Brookville. Residents are encouraged to engage in community outreach activities and wellness events throughout their training.

Residents in the program earn a competitive salary and benefits, including paid vacation, health insurance, malpractice insurance, and certification training in life support. The curriculum includes a scholarly activity component, elective rotations in various specialties, and a focus on resident wellness.
