The mission of the Meadville Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program is to enhance the lives of citizens in Crawford County and surrounding areas by developing exceptional family physicians. The program focuses on delivering compassionate and driven care for patients, families, and the community at large 1.
Residency Application Process
Applications for the residency program will be accepted until December 31, 2024. The program participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates eligible to apply are those who graduated medical school between 2015 and 2025. It is expected that applicants demonstrate consistent improvement in their medical knowledge and skills 1.
When applying, candidates are required to submit three recommendation letters, with a preference for at least one letter from a family medicine physician, although it is not mandatory for the letter to come from a family medicine rotation. Importantly, candidates must have completed USMLE Step 2 CK/CS or COMLEX Level 2 prior to being ranked, and ECFMG certification is essential for International Medical Graduates. However, the program does not sponsor any visa types, and it does not participate in the ECFMG J-1 sponsorship program 1.
Resident Stipends and Benefits
The salary structure for residents is as follows: the Post Graduate Year (PGY) 1 salary is $60,000, PGY 2 is $61,500, and PGY 3 is $62,500. Additionally, residents receive various benefits including reimbursement for the USMLE Step 3/COMLEX Level 3 exam fee, a one-time moving allowance of $1,000 upon joining the program, personalized white coats, access to an onsite exercise facility, and free onsite parking 1.
Other resident benefits encompass health, dental, vision, liability, life and disability insurance, free cafeteria meals while on duty, a $1,200 CME allowance (which includes five paid CME days throughout the residency for conference attendance), and wellness group activities. Each resident is also given 13 vacation days, three personal days, and five sick days annually 1.
