Deborah Heart and Lung Center provides a two-year independent Vascular Surgery Fellowship program in collaboration with Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. The Vascular Surgery Fellowship aims to foster an enriching learning environment within its well-established training framework.

Program Overview

The fellowship program is designed to equip fellows with the necessary skills and knowledge to become competent vascular surgeons. The fellowship follows a competency-based learning approach, emphasizing technical skills, clinical decision-making, and patient management, gearing them up toward board certification for the Vascular Surgery Boards. The fellows will undergo progressive training, focused first-year on fundamental vascular surgery concepts and techniques, followed by advanced clinical training in the second year.

Curriculum and Training

The Vascular Surgery Fellowship provides a comprehensive curriculum encompassing various aspects of vascular diseases. In the first year, fellows will focus on anatomical studies, pathophysiological understanding, differential diagnosis, and diagnostic imaging relevant to vascular conditions. They will become proficient in discussing open and endovascular surgical methods and practical procedural skills, including vascular access and basic interventions.

In the second year, the emphasis shifts to complex surgical procedures, preoperative and postoperative evaluations, and developing research skills. Fellows will refine their skills in surgical decision-making, engaging in both open and endovascular revascularization techniques, and learning how to conduct comprehensive assessments in outpatient settings.
