University of Mississippi Medical Center Program

The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) offers a comprehensive residency program in Emergency Medicine, distinguished by its commitment to high-quality education, advanced medical training, and extensive research. Established in 1986, and receiving departmental status in 1994, the program is the only accredited Emergency Medicine training program in Mississippi, and it serves as the state's sole Level 1 Trauma Center. Curriculum

The Emergency Medicine residency program at UMMC is a structured three-year (PGY 1-3) curriculum. The program also integrates the TelEmergency™ initiative, launching in 2003, which leverages telemedicine to expand access to emergency care in rural hospitals across Mississippi. Application Requirements and Competitiveness

Applicants must possess a valid ECFMG certificate if they have graduated outside the United States, and must have passed the USMLE or COMLEX STEP 1 before applying. Notably, the program does not sponsor H1B visas but typically considers J-1 visas for qualified candidates. The residency accepts US MD and DO applicants only, fostering a diverse educational environment for those with passion for emergency medicine.
