Early operative experience is encouraged, with residents completing over 1100 major cases during training. Additionally, a rural track pathway is available for residents preparing for rural practice.
Application to the program is open to all qualified applicants without discrimination. The application process requires completion of both steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE with a minimum score of 220 for step 2 on the first attempt before the October 31 deadline. Required application components include medical school transcripts, MSPE letter, CV, medical school diploma, graduation date within the past 3 years, three letters of recommendation, USMLE scores, and a personal statement. International medical graduates need to provide additional documentation, including ECFMG certification and a minimum of 3 months clinical experience in a U.S. medical facility. The program only accepts ECFMG sponsored J1 visas.
Interview invitations are sent based on a comprehensive review of all applications. Interviews for the 2024-2025 entering class will be conducted via Zoom. Following interviews, candidates are ranked by the Residency Selection Committee and the final rank list is submitted to the NRMP. The program participates fully in the Match, and no positions are offered outside of the Match process.
For interested residents, the program offers a fellowship-like Surgery Resident Research Year, providing a competitive 1-year funded research opportunity tailored to resident interests.
