The Wellstar Health System/Wellstar Kennestone Regional Medical Center Program offers an Internal Medicine Residency program with a focused Primary Care Track. This track is designed to prepare residents for dynamic primary care careers by providing them with hands-on experience in clinic settings, outpatient-focused curriculum, and mentorship opportunities. Residents are encouraged to remain within the Wellstar system, which offers numerous job opportunities in and around Atlanta suburbs and rural areas.
Rotation schedules for PGY-1 to PGY-3 include varied experiences in inpatient wards, ambulatory medicine, medical/cardiac care units, night float/procedures, as well as individualized educational experiences in neurology, emergency medicine, and geriatrics, among others. The educational curriculum includes weekly grand rounds, noon conferences covering various topics, board review sessions, and opportunities for scholarly activities and publications.
When applying to the program, applicants must be U.S. citizens or Permanent Residents and graduates of accredited U.S. or Canadian medical schools or schools outside the U.S. or Canada meeting specific requirements. Documentation required includes letters of recommendation, official transcripts with USMLE or COMLEX scores, CV, dean's letter, personal statement, and a photograph (optional). The program does not sponsor visas and mandates eligibility for a license in the state of Georgia.
