The Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital Ophthalmology Residency Program is a 4-year program that accepts 3 residents per year. The program director is Mark Juzych, MD, and the program coordinator is Emily Anderson. Graduates receive certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) upon completion.
During the PGY1 year, residents undergo nine months of direct patient care training in various rotations, including Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Ophthalmology. The following 36 months (PGY 2-4) focus on training in direct Ophthalmology rotations. Graduates must complete the Board Certification process within six years after residency training and participate in renewal programs every ten years.
The program requires applicants to submit their medical school transcript, COMLEX-USA or USMLE scores, dean's letter, 3 letters of recommendation, and a personal statement. Candidates selected for an interview are notified via email, and those accepted into the program must complete their Transitional Year at Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital.
Key application requirements include passing COMLEX Level 1, Level 2 CE & 2 PE before graduating from Medical School and completing COMLEX Level 3 by the end of PGY1 residency. The program does not sponsor any visas and IMGs must be US Medical School Graduates.
