Program Overview

1Tradition and Institutional Heritage
Augusta University serves as the primary teaching facility for the Medical College of Georgia (MCG), recognized as the nation's 13th oldest medical school. It stands as the largest medical school in the southeastern USA, attracting an annual entry class of approximately 260 students. 1Clinical Training Sites
Residents will rotate through a selection of reputable medical facilities, including the 478-bed Augusta University Medical Center (AUMC), the 154-bed Children’s Hospital of Georgia (CHOG), and the 155-bed Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center (VAMC). These institutions are situated in close proximity, facilitating seamless transitions and interactions among various disciplines. Collectively, these facilities generate approximately 260,000 radiology exams yearly, exposing residents to a broad spectrum of cases and health issues.
1Hands-On Experience
The program emphasizes extensive hands-on training, allowing residents to engage in a vast array of procedures such as Y-90 radioembolization, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS), lumbar punctures, as well as CT/ultrasound guided biopsies, among others. This practical exposure equips residents with essential skills required for competent practice in various radiological applications.
1Mentorship and Faculty
Residents will benefit from the guidance of 39 fellowship-trained faculty members across specialized sections. Many faculty are involved in research, contributing to a rich academic environment. This mentorship extends beyond clinical training as the faculty foster resident engagement in critical research areas and quality improvement initiatives. In addition, residents receive comprehensive instruction in radiological physics from full-time physicists, further enhancing their educational journey.
1Application Requirements
The program presents a competitive application process, welcoming applicants with various educational backgrounds, including both allopathic and osteopathic graduates as well as international medical graduates (IMGs). Applicants are expected to have completed their medical education, and specific guidelines regarding eligibility, such as year of graduation and the maximum allowable failed STEP exams, apply.
