Southern Illinois University (Decatur) Program

The Southern Illinois University (Decatur) Family Medicine Residency Program offers a comprehensive educational experience for residents. Located in Decatur, Illinois, residents have the opportunity to work in inpatient, outpatient, and nursing home settings at the SIU Center for Family Medicine - Decatur, a Federally Qualified Health Center. The program aims to provide a balanced full scope Family Medicine educational experience.

For applicants, the program accepts both U.S. ACGME and International M.D. Applicants, with virtual and on-site interview dates for the 2024-2025 season set from October 16, 2023, to January 12, 2024. Application requirements include completing the ERAS application, providing medical school transcripts, the Dean's letter (MSPE), a minimum of 3 letters of recommendation (with one from a family medicine physician), USMLE or COMLEX results, and meeting the Illinois Medical Licensure Requirements.

International graduates applying to the program must have graduated from medical school after 1/1/23, six months of hands-on clinical experience in the U.S., passed Step 1 and Step 2 exams on the first attempt with specified scores, and provide letters of recommendation from those who supervised their education and clinical activities.
