The Arnett Family Medicine Residency is a community-based program preparing family medicine residents to provide patient-centered care to individuals, families, and the community. Curriculum and Educational Tracks

The curriculum at the IU School of Medicine Family Medicine Residency is designed to ensure comprehensive training through a blend of longitudinal and block experiences. The longitudinal model allows for ongoing exposure to specialty topics such as cardiology, dermatology, behavioral health, and outpatient pediatrics. Core rotations during the residency include inpatient adult medicine, childcare, obstetrics, and family medicine clinic experiences.1

Residents experience the following structured curriculum during their training:

• PGY1: Emphasis on inpatient adult medicine, care of pregnant patients, inpatient pediatrics, and emergency room rotations, along with several longitudinal experiences.
• PGY2: Similar structure focusing on adult inpatient medicine, ICU rotations, elective opportunities, and enhanced longitudinal learning.
• PGY3: Residents undertake a balance of elective blocks, longitudinal learning, and a family medicine clinic assignment wherein they manage patient care as junior faculty.

In addition to the core curriculum, residents can choose from specialized education tracks in global health, adult hospital medicine, sports medicine, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM), enabling them to tailor their education to fit their career goals.2
