Residents have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a level III trauma center, with a variety of clinical settings ranging from small clinics to large hospitals. The program aims to prepare residents for a high-volume, high-acuity environment, whether in a tertiary academic center or a rural emergency department.
Throughout the program, residents will participate in various rotations, including traditional emergency medicine rotations, scene flights with flight nurses and paramedics, prehospital trauma life support, and patient care in the field. Additionally, residents have access to toxicology lectures, cadaver labs for procedural skills enhancement, a full simulation lab, trauma and SICU rotations at an adult level I trauma center, and pediatric ER and PICU rotations at Arkansas Children's Hospital.
The didactic curriculum includes resources such as Rosh Review, EMsono, and AMA and IHI modules. The program faculty consists of emergency medicine-trained and board-certified physicians who are actively involved in didactic conferences, research, ultrasound, and simulation training.
The Unity Health-White County Medical Center Emergency Medicine Residency Program accepts six residents annually and follows a block schedule for rotations. Applicants are required to have excellent oral and written communication skills, specific USMLE or COMLEX scores, Dean's letter or MSPE, three letters of recommendation from board-certified emergency medicine physicians, and ECGMG certification if applicable. The preferred applicant qualifications include specific score ranges for USMLE or COMLEX exams.
