Neurology Residency Program Overview

The Broward Health Neurology Residency Program offers a categorical, 4-year training opportunity designed to equip trainees with the skills, knowledge, and experience necessary to excel as neurologists. Participants will engage in a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes broad clinical exposure, didactic education, and individualized research opportunities.

Program Structure and Curriculum

The training experience is structured across multiple years, focusing initially on foundational medical education before delving into specialized neurology training.

Year One (PGY-1)

The first year primarily involves rotations in Internal Medicine, emphasizing basic patient care skills. Training includes six blocks on inpatient wards, one block in emergency medicine, and rotations in the medical intensive care unit, neurology (stroke service), neurosurgery, and outpatient neurology.

Year Two (PGY-2)

The second year prioritizes patient care and refining neurological examination skills. Residents partake in eight blocks in various settings including epilepsy monitoring units and continuity clinics, along with blocks dedicated to pediatric neurology and specialized areas like EEG studies.

Year Three (PGY-3)

The third year builds on prior training, focusing on advanced patient care skills and education on specific neurological subspecialties. The curriculum includes blocks focused on inpatient consultations, stroke services, and neuro-rehabilitation.

Year Four (PGY-4)

The final year rounds out resident education with a mix of consult duties and inpatient neurology blocks, as well as mandatory rotations such as psychiatry and opportunities for electives in areas of interest.

Broward Health provides a rich training environment through its expansive healthcare system comprised of multiple hospitals with 1,529 licensed beds and over 1,900 credentialed physicians. Being a part of the Broward Health Graduate Medical Education (GME) consortium allows residents access to excellent research resources and collaboration opportunities amongst affiliated institutions including NOVA Southeastern University, Florida International University, and the University of Miami. Application Process and Requirements

Applications to the program are processed via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). The program participates in the National Residency Matching Program and does not accept applicants outside of this match.

• USMLE or COMLEX Scores
• Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
• Three Letters of Recommendation (LOR)
• Personal Statement
• Medical School Transcripts (must be translated for international degrees)
• ECFMG Certificate, if applicable

International Applicants

International candidates must meet additional criteria to qualify for Florida Medical Training Licensure and must be eligible for J1 visa sponsorship.
