Residency Advisor

The Family Medicine Residency at Sampson Regional Medical Center (SampsonRMC) is an ACGME-accredited program that offers a comprehensive approach to family medicine training. Inpatient Rotations

During their inpatient care rotations, residents engage in critical care management and hospital medicine, gaining exposure to procedures such as central line placements, lumbar punctures, and various emergency interventions.

Outpatient Clinic

The Family Medicine Residency clinic emphasizes continuity of care by allowing residents to develop long-term relationships with patients. Residents learn to manage conditions across the lifespan, integrating pediatrics, geriatrics, and adult medicine in their practice. Additionally, they receive hands-on training in women's health procedures and are encouraged to participate in community health advocacy efforts.

Research Opportunities

Residents are encouraged to engage in research activities throughout their training. The program provides dedicated support for research initiatives, including access to a yearly research symposium hosted by Campbell University Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine (CUSOM). Collaboration opportunities with faculty and other residents promote academic growth and the advancement of clinical knowledge.

Salary and Benefits

The salary structure for residents is competitive, with the following annual salaries set to begin on July 1, 2024: PGY1 - $57,120, PGY2 - $58,140, and PGY3 - $60,180. Additionally, residents receive a tiered stipend that supports their training costs, alongside full health insurance benefits with no waiting period for coverage.

Visa Sponsorship

The program does accept International Medical Graduates; however, it does not provide visa sponsorship for applicants. Only U.S. citizens or those holding a green card may apply.

Competitiveness of the Program

The SampsonRMC Family Medicine Residency is considered competitive, although its unopposed nature and small cohort size may provide additional opportunities for applicants. The program is welcoming to DO graduates, and while IMG applicants are considered, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.

Application Requirements

Applicants must submit their applications through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Specific application requirements include a completed application, personal statements, and at least three letters of recommendation. There are no strict limits on the number of failed STEP exams; however, candidates must take USMLE Step 3 before the end of their second year.
