Henry Ford Health/Henry Ford Hospital Program

Curriculum Overview

The curriculum is well-structured and includes daily didactic lectures covering essential topics such as clinical dermatology, basic science, dermatopathology, surgical techniques, billing/coding, and service excellence. Grand Rounds are held weekly, providing residents with additional learning opportunities in a collaborative environment. Furthermore, residents participate in annual meetings hosted by the Michigan Dermatological Society, which supplement their education through interaction with dermatology professionals from around the state.

Rotations are tailored to ensure residents gain comprehensive training across various specialties within dermatology. The residency program features block rotations in Mohs Surgery and Dermatopathology, which are core elements of the training experience. Surgical training includes the management of Mohs Surgery and various cosmetic techniques.

Clinical Rotations and Experiences

Residents participate in a variety of clinical experiences, including:

• Mohs Surgery: Residents engage in two months of dedicated Mohs Surgery rotations each year.
• Inpatient Consultations: Residents complete a total of four months dedicated to inpatient consultation, split between the first and second year.
• Dermatopathology: This critical component begins in the second year, allowing residents to interpret pathology slides within a practical learning setting.
• Subspecialty Clinics: Residents gain experience in multicultural dermatology, pediatric dermatology, photodermatology, and transplant dermatology.
