MercyOne Des Moines/PHC Consortium Program

The MercyOne Des Moines Family Medicine Residency Program in Iowa has been established since 1997 and provides a comprehensive training experience for residents. They offer a rich clinical experience, including exposure to a Level II Trauma and tertiary care center, a busy OB center, and various procedural training opportunities. The program emphasizes clinical experience, faculty supervision, didactic courses, and procedures to help residents become successful family physicians.

The residency program partners with Primary Health Care, Inc. to enhance medical education opportunities and offers an outpatient continuity clinic with a diverse patient population. The curriculum includes board review style didactics, journal clubs, radiology rounds, and interactive clinical cases to enrich the learning experience. Graduates of the program have pursued various career paths across the United States, from full-spectrum practice to fellowships in specialized areas such as geriatrics, community health, and sports medicine.

The program also highlights additional learning opportunities, including an Integrative Medicine track, rural residency training, and Osteopathic Recognition. Residents have access to training in point-of-care ultrasound, additional obstetrics training, and teaching experiences with medical students.

The MercyOne Family Medicine Residency Program aims to produce board-certified physicians with competency-based education and leadership experiences who are prepared for full-spectrum family medicine practice. Residents are encouraged to practice evidence-based medicine, pursue lifelong learning, and become leaders in their medical communities.
