Broadlawns Medical Center Program

Broadlawns Medical Center Family Medicine Residency is an established program that offers a rich history of education and healthcare practice. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2024, Broadlawns has a long-standing legacy in providing comprehensive training. The Family Medicine program at Broadlawns offers three years of training in family medicine, accepting up to 30 resident physicians. Additionally, a transitional year program is available for four resident physicians who desire additional primary care training before pursuing another specialty.

The program's curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Broadlawns Medical Center, as the largest publicly funded hospital in Iowa, provides a unique and challenging learning environment for residents. The residents have the opportunity to engage in international medicine through established relationships with medical institutions in Honduras.

Residents at Broadlawns benefit from a wide range of hands-on experiences, including family medicine inpatient services, internal medicine/critical care, OB and women's health training, pediatrics training, community outreach, and international opportunities.
