USA Health Program

The Pediatrics Residency Program at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine offers a comprehensive three-year training experience in a stimulating and friendly environment. Residents will have the opportunity to provide care at the USA Health Children's & Women's Hospital. The patient population is culturally and socioeconomically diverse, providing a well-rounded experience in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.

The program focuses on increasing residents' responsibility and autonomy in patient care, scholarly activities, and teaching opportunities. Graduates have pursued various career paths, with many entering general pediatric careers or subspecialty fellowships. The program boasts a diverse resident and faculty population, representing more than 20 nationalities and ethnicities.

The application requirements for this program include submitting at least three letters of recommendation, medical school transcripts, personal statement, and USMLE or COMLEX scores. They do not have a minimum cut-off for USMLE scores, but they do take into consideration any failed attempts.

International graduates are invited to apply, and J-1 visas are the only visas sponsored by the program. Applicants must have graduated within the last three to five years. U.S. clinical experience is not a requirement, and there are no specific cut-offs for the date of graduation.

The program is known for its dedication to resident wellness and offers various activities to support residents' well-being inside and outside of the hospital. Examples include counseling services, wellness retreats, fitness opportunities, and monthly wellness conferences.
