USA Health Program

The Surgery Residency Program at USA Health, situated in Mobile, Alabama, provides unique training opportunities for aspiring surgeons. Visa Support

USA Health’s Surgery Residency Program accepts international medical graduates and sponsors J-1 visas for eligible residents. However, the program does not sponsor H-1B visas. This structure is designed to facilitate the integration of international candidates who meet the program's competitive selection criteria.

Competitiveness of the Program

The residency program is highly competitive, with selection based heavily on applicant performance in the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). Applicants are typically expected to have a minimum USMLE Step 1 score of 220, and while some attempts are acceptable, performance will be closely reviewed throughout the selection process.

Application Requirements

Potential candidates are expected to submit a completed ERAS application, which should include a dean’s letter, medical school transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. Specific consideration is given to candidates who have no more than two to five years since medical school graduation. The application deadline aligns with typical ERAS timelines to ensure all qualified candidates are evaluated fairly.
