Fellowship Focused Visa H1B, J1, F1

The University of Colorado General Surgery Residency program is a seven-year training program approved for 80 resident positions, graduating 11 chief residents annually. The internship includes 21 positions - 11 categorical and 10 preliminary. Residents work alongside Urology, Plastic Surgery integrated, and Vascular Surgery integrated residents. There are also up to 3 preliminary positions for a second year of surgical training in General Surgery.

During the program, categorical residents can spend two years in research labs or academic endeavors tailored to their career goals. Most graduates pursue fellowship programs or academic careers. They aim to provide a well-balanced surgical experience tailored to individual career goals.

Application requirements include standard items such as a transcript, three letters of recommendation, USMLE Step I and Step II passing scores, and a personal statement. International medical graduates must have appropriate documentation to legally train at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine.

The program receives over 2,000 applications each year and typically interviews around 120 applicants. Interviews are conducted virtually from November through January. Invitations to interview for categorical track applicants are sent starting in late October.

The program offers PGY-1 positions in categorical and preliminary tracks. Other PGY-level positions may become available due to attrition. Residents are expected to complete two years of research/academic time during the program.

For further information, applicants are encouraged to follow the program's resident-run Instagram page @cusurgeryresidents.
