In addition to core laboratory rotations, fellows will engage with various specialties, including mitochondrial and biochemical genetics testing, cytogenetics at the Colorado Genetics Laboratory (CGL), and clinical experiences in outpatient genetics clinics at both University of Colorado Hospital and CHCO.

The curriculum involves structured didactics, one-on-one teaching, and opportunities for practical laboratory experiences based on the fellow’s training level. Fellow education is further supported through participation in the “Clinical Cytogenetics and Molecular Genetics” course, journal clubs, lab management meetings, and involvement in validating clinical tests during the fellowship year.

Research Opportunities

Fellows are encouraged to engage in research activities, including validation studies for clinical tests. The fellowship promotes scholarly activities intended for national presentations, driving fellow-led contributions to academic discourse within the field of molecular genetic pathology.
