AdventHealth Florida (Orlando) Program

Residents engage in a variety of rotations each year, gaining exposure to multiple subspecialties including but not limited to: Complex Family Planning, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, Gynecologic Oncology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The program emphasizes experiential learning, allowing residents to work closely with faculty and a diverse patient population, ensuring that they acquire both practical and theoretical knowledge.

Clinical Rotations and Experiences

Residents participate in comprehensive clinical experiences that encompass a high volume of births and surgical procedures. Each year, the AdventHealth Orlando hospital system records approximately 5,000 deliveries and 1,500 hysterectomies. The residents are actively involved in the management and care of patients, spanning the full range of obstetric and gynecological health issues. This hands-on experience is vital in preparing residents for independent practice.

Teaching Sites

The major teaching hospital for the program is the AdventHealth Orlando Hospital for Women and Children. This site features facilities for Labor and Delivery, a Level 4 NICU, and dedicated surgical units for gynecologic procedures. The outpatient clinic is located within the AdventHealth Medical Group Orlando OB/GYN Office, providing a robust environment for continuity of patient care.

Didactic Instruction

Weekly didactic sessions occur every Friday, providing protected learning time for residents. These sessions cover vital topics such as maternal physiology, antepartum and intrapartum care, obstetric complications, benign and malignant gynecology, and perioperative care. Additionally, the program includes monthly simulation sessions designed to hone technical skills in both obstetrics and gynecology.

Research and Quality Improvement

Residents are encouraged to engage in clinical research and quality improvement projects during their training. Each resident participates in at least one quality improvement project alongside an original research project, the latter being expected to be completed by the end of the third year. This involvement in research not only enhances residents' understanding of patient care but also contributes to their professional development and readiness to practice in the field.
