The University of Louisville School of Medicine Dermatology Residency Program is a comprehensive training initiative focused on creating competent dermatologists capable of providing superior care for patients with a wide range of skin, hair, nail, and mucous membrane conditions. The program, boasting over 50 years of history with continuous approval by the Dermatology Residency Review Committee, offers a three-year training period that encompasses all aspects of clinical dermatology. This includes exposure to complex medical dermatology, dermatologic surgery, dermatopathology, and cosmetic dermatology. Residents gain diverse experiences through traditional clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals and private practices throughout the city.

The residency program is participating in the ERAS signaling process and encourages all applicants to do so to increase their chances of receiving an interview invitation. Interviews for the cycle are scheduled to be virtual, taking place on February 9 (afternoon) and February 10 (morning), 2024.

Prospective residents are urged not to initiate contact before interviews except in specific circumstances, such as couples matching or significant life events. Post-interview communications regarding preferences, including letters of intent or thank-you letters, are discouraged to avoid influencing the match decision process unnecessarily.

The program also offers a variety of seminars and conferences, including a Journal Club and Grand Rounds, aimed at enhancing educational outcomes for residents. Participants are encouraged to engage in research, with requirements stipulating either one IRB-approved study or three case reports during their residency, completed by January 15 of their third year.

Clinical care settings for the program include the Louisville VAMC for general and medical dermatology, pediatric dermatology under Dr. Patricia Todd, and multiple other sites offering experiences in general dermatology, dermatologic surgery, cosmetology, and inpatient consults.
