Berkshire Medical Center Program

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Massachusetts is committed to providing exceptional clinical education to produce highly-qualified future primary care, hospitalist, and subspecialist physicians. Residents collaborate with program leadership to create a community atmosphere supporting growth and independence throughout training. Residents participate in a vibrant academic environment at Berkshire Medical Center, teaching and supervising students from multiple medical schools. They are involved in patient care across Berkshire County at various clinics and health centers, enhancing their training experience. The program has been recognized for its high-quality patient care and educational strength.

Application updates for the fall 2023 recruitment season include conducting virtual interviews and optional in-person Open House dates. The program encourages completing a supplemental ERAS application for improved applicant evaluation. Requirements include a completed ERAS application, a minimum of three letters of recommendation, Dean's Letter or equivalent, and passing scores on USMLE/COMLEX exams.

The program provides a Preliminary Medicine Internship for five trainees annually. Applicants must meet specific requirements, including a passing score on USMLE Steps I, II, and II CS/PE, a personal statement, and a recent photograph. International Medical Graduates must be able to obtain a J1 Visa, Resident Alien Status, Green Card, or have US Citizenship.

Through a comprehensive educational curriculum and strong scholarly activity support, residents have the opportunity to further the science of medicine. The program emphasizes resident wellness, offering various programs and supports throughout training.
