Trinity Health Livonia Hospital Program

The Transitional Year Residency Program at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital is a one-year intensive training program accredited by the ACGME. The program aims to provide a well-balanced graduate medical education in various clinical disciplines to help residents choose and prepare for a specific specialty. Internal Medicine sponsors the Transitional Year program.

The program is designed for medical school graduates who require fundamental clinical education before entering advanced residency programs or specialties. It also caters to those planning to serve in public health organizations, the military, or those needing clinical experience before pursuing administrative medicine or non-clinical research.

Application requirements include passing USMLE Step 1 before the interview, passing USMLE Step 2 and CSA before the program start, and graduating from medical school within the past 3 years. Three clinical references, Dean's letter, transcripts, and an educational license are also required.

The curriculum comprises core rotations such as fundamental clinical skills, floors, MICU, general surgery, emergency medicine, ambulatory, night float, and electives. The program offers a flexible curriculum following 2011 ACGME guidelines, with a focus on customizable rotations to meet various specialty requirements.

The program director, Dr. Sangeetha Nanthabalan, emphasizes developing scientific knowledge, evidence-based decision-making, lifelong learning, and values of caring. The program strives to produce well-rounded residents prepared for advanced specialty programs.
